About Me
My name is Reid Young, I do graphic / web design and development. I'm married to the lovely and inconceivably talented Camille (Campos) Young. I graduated from Purdue in December 2005 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Graphics Technology and a minor in Computer Engineering.
I love design, and find that a good balance of web and interface design mixed with the occasional print piece keeps me pretty sharp. I've also come to really enjoy development work with PHP / MySQL and CSS / XHTML.
I started working at openBook Technologies in August 2003 as a designer. A year or so later, I had begun to move the company away from the old style of tabular, non-compliant site design to valid, accessible layouts using CSS and XHTML. This move saved us money by cutting down on development time, brought us up to date with modern (and sometimes brand new) design techniques, and made our clients happy.
A few months later, my title changed to Creative Director as we hired new developers and designers to accomodate the burgeoning business. Around this time we had begun the massive undertaking that is HydraCMS, a content management system that I designed and managed from the ground up. In January 2006 I took the reins as Director of Operations, making me responsible for almost all of openBook's projects. Luckily, I had Christopher Thomas and Eric Salczynski with me, and we had more fun working together than is probably healthy.
I started Artistorm as a way to sell my wife's beautiful artwork. Incidentally, I met my wife as a result of my other pet project, Starmen.Net, which started out as a personal website back in 1997 and has since evolved into a huge community, all dedicated to an old SNES RPG named EarthBound. The site has been an unending supply of experience, opportunities, and great stories - I hope to get back to work on it someday soon.
In August 2006 I began two big moves: the first move was back to Tucson, AZ. The second move was starting my own freelance design firm, Reidesign. Maybe we can work together?
